At the June 29 news conference celebrating Klyde Warren Park's expansion, the Regional Transportation Council's transportation director said he expected construction to start after the park's run of Christmas events, according to The Dallas Morning News. The schedule changed. In its October letter to neighbors, the park said work was expected to begin on or around October 19, 2026.
That puts the 2026 tree lighting, the holiday markets and Santa Saturday right next to an active deck job over Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The park itself keeps its full calendar. What changes is the drive in and the curb where you park.
The work is over the freeway, not on the lawn
The expansion adds 1.7 acres on the west side of the park and covers the last recessed stretch of Woodall Rodgers toward Field Street. The Dallas Morning News describes the site as the gap between North St. Paul and North Akard streets. The current park covers 5.4 acres, so the addition makes it roughly a third bigger.
Construction comes in two stages. Archer Western, the firm that built the original deck more than a decade ago, builds the new deck first. Only after the deck is done does the park's Foundation start on the amenities. For this holiday season, that means the work is structural and happens at the freeway level, next to the lawn you already use.
According to the park's construction update, here's what drivers can expect during the deck phase:
- Woodall Rodgers Freeway stays open, with some lane reductions.
- Two weekend freeway closures are expected about a year into construction, so they won't fall in this holiday season.
- The frontage roads stay open, also with some lane reductions.
- Frontage road parking meters may be limited to keep through traffic moving.
- Lane closure schedules are posted at DriveTexas and in the DriveTexas app. The park also shares updates on its KWP 2.0 page and in its weekly Neighbors' email.
The meters are the item that matters most for a quick visit. The park's letter expects the start to be the hardest stretch, since drivers are still getting used to new traffic patterns, and says traffic during past construction settled once people found other routes. November and December are the first weeks of that adjustment, so check DriveTexas before you leave, especially for an evening event.
Seven weeks of programming, as currently listed
The schedule hasn't been cut back. These are the highlights from the park's events calendar for November and December 2026. The park updates the calendar often, so confirm before you go.

Smaller weekday programs fill the gaps between those dates. Therapeutic Music & Movement with KidLinks runs Thursday mornings, November 5, 12 and 19, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Story Time in the Park with the Dallas Public Library is set for Wednesday mornings, November 18 and December 16, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Chess Lessons with Texas Chess Center take place November 15 and December 13 from 2 to 3 p.m.
The fitness schedule lists weekend classes through November 22. Sundays include yoga, Pilates and Sweat & Sculpt, and Saturdays include bootcamp, slow-flow and meditation. No December class dates were listed yet. The events calendar currently ends at December 19, so anything later in the month hasn't been posted.
December 5 is the night the drive matters most
Most of the season happens in daylight, often on weekday mornings, when traffic near the park is light. One evening breaks that pattern. On Saturday, December 5, three events overlap. The Tree Lighting Celebration runs from 4 to 7 p.m. with Santa, Mrs. Claus, live performances and seasonal characters. The Boho Holiday Market brings local artisan vendors and handcrafted goods from 4 to 9 p.m. The Perot Museum TECH Truck arrives from 7 to 9 p.m.
That's five straight hours of programming on a Saturday night in early December, during the first weeks of new frontage road traffic patterns, with fewer meters likely open. If you want the market without the crowd, the Boho Holiday Market comes back Sunday, December 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, December 12, is the strongest daytime pick. The Saint Michael's Farmers Market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., SPARK! in the Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Build Your City! with ADEX from noon to 2 p.m., and Santa Paws from 1 to 4 p.m. A Structured Pack Training & Socialization session for dogs starts the morning at 10. You can do a whole family morning, pet photos included, and leave before the evening traffic.
Plan meals around the truck hours
Food trucks at the park run weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The park notes that schedules can change. On December 5, the Boho Holiday Market runs until 9 p.m., more than an hour after the trucks' usual weekend closing time. For a late dinner that night, the park's dining page lists two sit-down options on site, Mi Cocina on the Park and La Parada.
The Dallas Museum of Art at 1717 North Harwood Street in the Arts District works well alongside the park this season. Its Center for Creative Connections, known as C3, held its free grand-reopening weekend September 19–20, 2026. C3 reopened with refreshed galleries, a new exhibition, an updated theater, a 3D-printing makerspace, art studios and redesigned space for young children. The museum's Free First Sundays fall on November 1 and December 6, with Open Studio and a docent-led collection tour.
Both of those Sundays line up with something at the park. November 1 has the Running Club in the morning and piano lessons in the afternoon. December 6 brings back the Boho Holiday Market. With one parking stop, you can cover the museum and the lawn in the same afternoon.
What the deck is for
The structure going up next to this season's events is what makes room for future winters at the park. The Phase 2.0 plan includes the 37,000-square-foot Jacobs Lawn, which is designed to host ice skating in winter. It also includes The Overlook and a pavilion with 24,000 square feet of event space and an 8,000-square-foot rooftop terrace. Park chairman Jody Grant told The Dallas Morning News the building will have restaurants and retail on the first floor, event space on the second and a deck on the roof. He previously told the paper the expansion could increase the park's free events by 30%.
The opening date is an estimate. The park's June 29 announcement put construction at about 24 months and didn't give an opening year. Counting 24 months from the October 2026 start in the park's letter lands around late 2028. A November 2025 NBC 5 report said completion was expected in 2029. Either way, the Jacobs Lawn rink won't open for at least two more holiday seasons. This year's Santa Saturday on December 19 runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on the 5.4-acre park that's already there.
Klyde Warren sits between Uptown and the Arts District, and over the next two years the space around it will keep changing.
